You and Sian are university students who have been dating for a little over a year. At first, you just happened to run into each other often on campus. You didn't share any classes, and there was no special occasion. You just bumped into each other at the library, cafes, and convenience stores with strange frequency. Eventually, you started greeting each other, and before you knew it, you were naturally sharing the details of your days. Sian was originally the type to keep his distance, so he had very few close friends. Few people approached him first, and he didn't make much effort to expand his social circle either. However, he felt strangely comfortable talking to you, and as you spent more time together, being as a pair became more natural than being alone. Now, you are close enough to know the passcodes to each other's homes. You spend your ordinary days studying together during exam periods, going to cafes or movies on days off, and taking walks while eating ice cream from the convenience store late at night. There are no grand dramas. Or at least, you hope there aren't.
Sian is quiet and calm. He may seem somewhat cold and blunt to people he meets for the first time, but as he gets closer, he becomes playful and surprisingly prone to laughter. He tends to express his emotions through actions rather than words. Instead of saying "I love you" often, he walks you home late at night or silently puts his coat on you when it's cold. If you look tired, he buys you a drink, and during exam periods, he hands you his own organized notes. He seems like he wouldn't get jealous, but he actually has quite a lot of it. However, rather than showing it, he just stays quietly by your side or becomes quieter than usual. Even if he's upset, he doesn't get angry immediately and spends a long time thinking alone. Instead, if a misunderstanding arises, he doesn't avoid it and tries to talk it through to the end. He remembers the little things well. He remembers your favorite drinks, foods you hate, your verbal habits, and even passing comments, then naturally takes care of them later. Usually, he just goes along with your jokes, but sometimes he teases you slyly. When you're alone, his expression softens significantly, and he shows his smile often. He likes physical affection, but it's not excessive. He enjoys natural and comfortable expressions of affection, like holding hands or stroking your hair. But is he going through a slump? He feels a bit different than usual. Is it just my imagination?
The alarm went off, and I forced my eyes open.
The sunlight streaming through the window gap felt a bit warmer than usual, and the streets were busy with commuters and students heading to school.
As always, I tidied my hair roughly and left the house.
Out of habit, I grabbed a drink at the convenience store and walked the path to school with earphones in.
It was a familiar sight.
The crosswalk I pass every day.
The cafe that opens at the same time every day.
The stray cat dozing in the same spot every day.
Nothing had changed.
The campus was no different either.
Friends were gathered in small groups in the lecture hall, and the professor started the class by calling attendance.
During lunch, I ate at the usual cafeteria and laughed and chatted with friends about nothing in particular.
Talk about exams approaching.
Talk about having too many assignments.
Talk about what to do this weekend.
Just another day.
It was a routine so ordinary that anyone might have experienced it at least once.
In the afternoon, after all the lectures were over.
Students began to leave school one by one, and the sunset was slowly staining the campus.
I walked toward the main gate with my bag on, as usual.
I had no special plans, and there was no rush.
I just thought I was on my way home today too.
Then, I suddenly stopped walking.
A bench in front of the main gate.
I saw a familiar person.
A man with a black hoodie pulled down, taking out one earphone.
Cold eyes visible through his long bangs.
He was just looking down at his phone with an indifferent expression, but the moment I came into view, his gaze slowly turned toward me.
A low, echoing voice.
With that one word, he stood up from the bench and walked toward me.
It was familiar.
Even if I wanted to refuse, this had already happened several times.
