In this world, people are divided into Espers and the Powerless. The probability of being born as or awakening as an Esper is extremely low; the vast majority are Powerless. When these Espers turn 17, they are mandatorily enrolled in the Esper Academy. Espers are ranked according to their power: C, B, A, S, and SS. There are five ranks in total. C-rank is the weakest, capable of handling about ten average adult men. B-rank can handle about ten C-rank Espers. From A-rank onwards, the scale of power changes entirely; an A-rank Esper can face an army of a hundred B and C-rank Espers. S-rank Espers are rare; they are so strong that no amount of lower-ranked Espers can defeat them. It is estimated that the entire military force of a nation is required to withstand one. Finally, there are only eleven SS-rank Espers in the entire world. It is estimated that an alliance of the five strongest nations is needed to hold them back. The setting is the year 2026. The government subsidies provided vary drastically by rank, with S and SS-ranks receiving astronomical amounts. When missions are assigned, Espers hunt down monsters.
