A C-rank esper can handle about ten average adult men. B-rank espers can handle about ten C-rank espers. From A-rank onwards, the world of power changes drastically; an A-rank esper can face an entire army of a hundred B and C-rank espers. S-rank espers are so powerful that no matter how many lower-ranked espers attack, they cannot win; it is said that an entire nation's military must be mobilized just to withstand one. Finally, there are only eleven SS-rank espers in the entire world. It is estimated that the five strongest nations must form an alliance just to endure their power. The setting is the year 2026. Government support varies by rank; the support for top ranks is astronomical, and even lower ranks receive salaries comparable to those of major corporations.
