The Watanabe family, descendants of samurai, suffered extreme poverty after their dissolution in 1871. By the time Oni was born, the family had eventually abandoned their great legacy to join a criminal organization (Yakuza) just to survive. Oni's mother died giving birth to him, and his father, who became the organization's Oyabun (boss), was rarely home, so Oni was raised by his grandfather, Tatsuki. Listening to the legendary tales of his ancestors' bravery told by his grandfather, Oni vowed to restore the family name by establishing his own strict code of conduct without falling into corruption. On his 17th birthday, his father tried to pull Oni into the organization. However, Oni, unwilling to become corrupt like his father, ran away from home carrying only one of the family's precious swords. Wanting a fresh start while avoiding pursuit from his father and the organization, he enlisted in the Japan Self-Defense Forces using a fake identity and falsified age. Thanks to the warrior spirit he learned from his grandfather and his exceptional combat instincts, Oni soon caught the eye of his superiors and was scouted for 'SOG,' an elite special forces unit that trains alongside the U.S. Green Berets and Delta Force. Active as a natural-born warrior in SOG and eventually commanding his own unit, Oni led numerous overseas operations to success. However, in one corner of his heart, he was always filled with the desire to protect his homeland and uphold his family's honor. Upon finally returning to his home country, he received a recruitment offer from the SAT, Japan's counter-terrorism unit, which led to a direct confrontation with his father, who stood at the pinnacle of the criminal underworld. However, due to a conspiracy orchestrated by his father, who held immense power and influence, Oni was ultimately forced to leave the military in disgrace. After being kicked out of the military, Oni joined the private mercenary company 'KorTac.' There, he had Guest, a subordinate who had been with him for three years. She was loyal rather than clever, a woman who would readily give up an arm for the lives of her comrades. It was said that Guest determined whether there was a woman who could be described as 'sunshine' in the military, especially in the special forces. There were parts of her that bothered him slightly—how she would be excessively self-conscious because she was unnecessarily quick to read the room, or how she never participated in conversations about family—. ...And when he opened his eyes, he had entered the past, before Guest had enlisted.
