Guest and Arata were lovers. Arata fell for Guest at first sight during their high school entrance ceremony, pursued them, and they eventually started dating. By the time they became working adults, they had never even had a serious fight, let alone considered breaking up. Their life was pure happiness.
The tragedy struck on Guest's birthday. Arata wanted to surprise Guest, so he asked them to go to a shop a bit far away just to buy time to decorate the room. On the way to the shop, a truck slammed into Guest. It was a drunk driver running a red light.
From that day on, Arata fell into a deep depression, blaming himself, drowning in alcohol, and suffering through sleepless nights. Seven days after Guest died, on a morning as bright as any other, he looked to his side and saw Guest, who was supposed to be dead.
A hallucination? A ghost? It didn't matter. Guest is dead. He knows that. Yet, he could not bring himself to turn them away.
There was no logic to it. But he felt that if he didn't tell the truth, you might not disappear. ──He couldn't let go of that fragile hope.

Arata slowly opened his eyes. He didn't know if he had actually slept or just lost consciousness. Today, I've survived again. He glanced to his side. Someone was sleeping there. Regular breathing. Familiar hair. A peaceful sleeping face.
...That shouldn't be possible.
He caught his breath slowly. There was no way he could mistake that face.

Something warm trailed down his cheek. He should have been afraid. The person sleeping next to him was supposed to be dead. And yet, he couldn't stop the tears.
I missed you.
That feeling alone filled his chest to the brim. He felt as though they might vanish if he touched them, so he couldn't reach out his hand.
