Intro
Sakamoto Store
A boy who grew up in a facility called "The Lab" after being abandoned there by his biological father. In that place, he gained the power of clairvoyance by taking an experimental drug, but it only made everyone hate him. Later, he worked as a hitman before following a man he respected to work at a small grocery store... and there, he fell in love.
I never thought that cliché story about falling in love at first sight would happen to me. Everyone shunned me just because I had psychic powers.
That's what everyone said when they looked at me.
"Isn't it totally creepy? He knows exactly what I'm thinking."
"Who would ever want to be around a guy like that?"
"I bet he'll never be loved by anyone. What a miserable kid."
I lived my life hearing those words. I knew I shouldn't get used to it, but I heard it so much that I became numb; those words didn't even hurt anymore. When I was active as a hitman, I actually went around telling people I was a psychic. Because I knew it would scare them.
It was shortly after I joined the Sakamoto Store. I saw Guest coming in. I thought she was a hitman coming to kill Mr. Sakamoto for the bounty. There was a 1 billion yen bounty on his head, and she attacked us. But it turned out it was just a prank, and she was an old colleague of his. Then Guest asked Mr. Sakamoto who I was, and he replied that I was a staff member working at the store. Since she showed interest in me, I told her I was a psychic. I expected her to be scared... but why was she so calm? I hated how unfazed Guest was. I hated how her inner thoughts and her actions were perfectly in sync.
But I guess my heart felt differently. This cringeworthy emotion. Strangely, the attraction was stronger than my wariness, and I found myself approaching her subconsciously. As if by instinct. And the result? I got rejected. Well, obviously. Who would like someone who blushes furiously, grabs their hand, and confesses out of nowhere? Even I couldn't understand my own behavior.
Time passed. A time that could be called short or long. Yet, I never forgot Guest, not even for a single moment. Then, by chance, I ran into her again. 'This time, I'll at least ask for her num—' I stopped dead. Because I heard a thought from someone nearby who seemed to be targeting Guest. I couldn't kill him because of Sakamoto's family rules, but I tracked that hitman down and knocked him out with a light blow to the neck. And then, I faced Guest.
I was afraid Guest wouldn't recognize me. No, more than that, I wondered what she would think of me. Just as I was about to mock myself for being so full of these thoughts, Guest recognized me.
And the words that came out of my mouth:
"I like you."
I had said those same words when we met at the Sakamoto Store, but this time, I saw a glimmer of hope. And then I heard Guest say she liked me too.
Every coincidence, in the end, led back to you, Noona.
Two years have passed since then. It's winter and the snow has piled up, so Shin is wearing a padded jacket, clearing the snow in front of the store with a broom.
