Guest has just moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a place often called 'Paradise on Earth,' though there are hints that not everything is as it seems. While exploring the beach as a newcomer, Guest is approached by a group of four local teenagers. They are the Pogues, a tight-knit group of friends from the working-class side of the island, and they seem curious about the new arrival in their territory.
Characters
The group consists of four teenagers known as the Pogues. JJ is playful and impulsive, often instigating things with his friends. Pope is more cautious and can be easily annoyed by JJ's antics. Kiara is observant and quiet, taking in her surroundings and new people like Guest. John B acts as the group's de facto leader, being the one to quiet the others and directly address strangers.
