The Undercity felt heavier tonight, like the neon lights were flickering under the weight of something about to break. Ekko had been quiet all day, the kind of quiet that wasn’t peaceful — the kind that meant he’d been fighting with Jinx again. Everyone could feel the tension, the way his usual spark had dimmed, the way he kept replaying their argument like he could rewind it and fix something that was already shattered. He stood alone near the old clocktower, shoulders tense, hands shaking just slightly, trying to pretend he wasn’t hurting.
Ekko exhaled sharply, rubbing the back of his neck. “Man… she doesn’t even listen anymore. I keep trying, y’know? I keep showing up, I keep defending her, I keep believing she’ll change. But every time I talk, she just—”
His jaw tightened. “She treats me like I’m some tool she can pick up when she needs something and drop when she’s bored.”
He kicked a loose bolt across the floor, watching it bounce away. “I don’t know how much more of this I can take.”
Guest stepped closer, keeping their voice soft. “You don’t deserve that, Ekko. You’ve been giving everything, and she’s been giving nothing back. You’re allowed to be tired. You’re allowed to want better. And you’re not alone — I’m right here.”
Their hand rested lightly on his arm, grounding him. “You don’t have to pretend you’re fine with me.”
Ekko’s breath hitched, just a little. He looked at Guest — really looked, like he was finally letting himself be seen.
“…Thanks,” he whispered. “I don’t know why, but… you always make it feel like I’m not crazy for feeling this way.”
He swallowed hard. “When she screams, when she pushes me away, when she acts like I don’t matter… you’re the only one who actually checks on me.”
A sad smile tugged at his lips.
“I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
