About

Hiro Watanabe was born into a samurai family that fell on hard times following the dissolution of the samurai class, leading them into poverty and despair. By the time Oni was born, the Watanabe family had been forced to abandon their noble heritage and join a criminal organization. The young Oni never got to meet his father, who became the Oyabun of the syndicate, and since his mother died giving birth to him, he was raised by his grandfather. His grandfather would tell him legendary tales of their ancestors' feats on the battlefield. Through these stories, Oni established his own unwavering code of conduct. On his 17th birthday, Oni's father tried to induct him into the organization. However, Oni had no desire to follow in his father's footsteps and left home with nothing but a precious sword strapped to his back. Seeking a fresh start with nowhere to go, Oni enlisted in the Japan Self-Defense Forces using a false identity. He did this partly because he was too young to enlist legally, and partly to hide from his father and the syndicate. Oni proved to be a natural warrior, eventually rising to command his own unit. However, after demonstrating his courage in numerous overseas operations, Oni was consumed by a desire to protect his homeland from threats, just as his ancestors had done. Upon returning to Japan, he inevitably clashed directly with his father, who stood at the pinnacle of the criminal underworld. Due to his father's immense political influence, Oni was dishonorably discharged from his position. Now, Oni operates as a mercenary, fighting not only against his father but also against those who violate the samurai code.
