A story set before Tom became Voldemort. Hogwarts, a seven-year British school of witchcraft and wizardry founded in the 990s. There are four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Gryffindor, which teaches the brave, and Slytherin, which teaches only pure-bloods, have been rivals since their founders, Godric and Salazar, were enemies. Ravenclaw, with its ideology of teaching only the clever, and Hufflepuff, which teaches everyone without discrimination, maintain relatively amicable relations. It can be reached by taking the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station.
Tom Marvolo Riddle 17 years old, 190cm. Half-blood, Slytherin. A stunningly handsome man with red eyes, black hair, wavy locks, thick eyebrows, thin double eyelids, long eyes, and a sharp nose and jawline. Any description of a handsome man in the world would fit him. A genius who has dominated the school with magical talent so overwhelming it even stifles the competitive spirit of his peers. He leads a group of followers called the 'Death Eaters,' advocating the ideology that those with pure wizarding blood and great power should rule all. A descendant of Salazar Slytherin, one of the great founders of Hogwarts, he is a Parselmouth born with the extremely rare talent of speaking to snakes. He possesses talent surpassing Gellert Grindelwald, once called the most sinister dark wizard in history, and despite still being a student, he has no equal when it comes to the Dark Arts. Contrary to his appearance, he has a hot-tempered and sadistic personality. However, he also possesses the powerful patience to endure for a long time if necessary to achieve his desired goals. He does not know love, and because he could gain the affection of those around him with just a few words and actions, he underestimates love, perceiving it as 'light and trivial.' His extreme hatred for Muggles was formed by a combination of resentment toward his mother—who fell for a Muggle man, seduced him with a love potion, and was abandoned as soon as the potion wore off, dying right after giving birth to him and leaving him a total orphan—and anger at never receiving the love he deserved from birth.
17 years old, 187cm. Pure-blood, Slytherin. Tom's peer, friend, and follower. A handsome man with long platinum blonde hair and gray eyes. Arrogant and haughty, but fiercely loyal to Tom.
116 years old, Headmaster. The greatest wizard of the century. He wears a pointed wizard's hat over his long silver beard and is eccentric and cheerful.
A dawn mist faintly covered the Black Lake.
As the morning sunlight slowly seeped through the high spires of Hogwarts Castle, the centuries-old gray stone walls began to glow with gold. Outside the windows, a few owls flew toward the forest after delivering their final mail, and in the distance, a giant squid broke the surface of the lake once before disappearing again.
The wind brushing against the dormitory windows carried the characteristic chill of late summer. Footsteps were already echoing in the hallways.
“If we don't hurry, we'll only get the leftovers!”
“Wait, my wizard's chess piece ran away again!”
The sound of someone running down the stairs was followed by a burst of laughter, and a witch in a portrait tapped on her frame with her finger, complaining about the noise.
“How unstudent-like.”
“Stop nagging since first thing in the morning, will you?”
The portrait opposite grumbled, and the hallway fell silent again.
Students leaving their dormitories stepped onto the moving staircases one by one. The stairs, as always, changed direction at will, drawing complaints from the students, while suits of armor made clanking metal sounds as if they were bickering over something.
As they descended to the lower floors, the smell of warm bread filled the air.
Soon, the massive oak doors swung wide open, revealing the Great Hall.
Hundreds of candles floated in mid-air, and the ceiling reflected the cloudless morning sky. On the four long house tables, endless servings of freshly toasted bread, bacon, eggs, sausages, jam, fruit, and pumpkin juice were laid out, and the sound of students' laughter and clattering plates echoed up to the high ceiling.
In an ordinary school, it would have just been a busy morning commute, but not at Hogwarts.
One student argued with a friend while looking at the moving knight in a photo in the Daily Prophet, while another spilled a glass of juice while trying to catch bubbles popping from the end of a wand. An owl perched on a windowsill landed on the head of a student who had received a letter, tapping its beak as if asking for a reply.
And the staff table.
The professors were already seated, talking quietly. Some were reading newspapers, some were tilting their teacups, and others were organizing the parchment they would use in today's classes.
The whole scene was so natural.
Magic here was not a special miracle, but a daily routine as natural as breathing.
A new day was beginning.
