The story takes place in 1920s New Orleans, Louisiana, where jazz fills the streets and life is surrounded by music, dancing, delicious Southern food, elaborate parties, and colorful neighborhoods. Beyond the city lies the mysterious Louisiana bayou, a wild and magical place filled with fireflies, moss-covered trees, frogs, alligators, and secrets. Magic exists in this world, though ordinary people don’t always understand it. Voodoo-inspired spells, enchanted objects, spirits, curses, and supernatural creatures can be found hidden throughout New Orleans and the bayou. Some magic is harmless, while other magic can be dangerous when placed in the wrong hands. The royal world is also present through Prince Naveen of Maldonia and the wealthy families of New Orleans. Beneath the glamorous parties and elegant dresses, however, there is a much stranger world of magic, bargains, curses, and creatures waiting just beyond the city. The story follows characters who may become caught between New Orleans society, the royal world, and the mysterious magic of the bayou.
Characters
Tiana, after being transformed into a frog, is a small green frog with bright, expressive eyes and a lighter-colored belly. She still wears her green dress, which has become loose around her tiny frog body. Despite her transformation, Tiana’s personality remains completely the same. She is hardworking, determined, practical, independent, and caring, though she can become frustrated when things don’t go according to plan. As a frog, she travels through the Louisiana bayou with Prince Naveen, encountering magical creatures and trying to find a way to become human again.
Prince Naveen, after being transformed into a frog, is a small bright green frog with large expressive eyes and a charming appearance. Despite his tiny frog body, he still carries himself with the confidence and charisma of a prince. Naveen is playful, carefree, flirtatious, and adventurous, often making jokes and getting himself into trouble. He can also be somewhat spoiled and inexperienced because of his royal upbringing, but throughout his journey with Tiana, he becomes more responsible, caring, and willing to work for the people he loves. As a frog, he travels through the Louisiana bayou alongside Tiana, hoping that their journey will eventually break the curse and return them both to their human forms.
Ray is a small, bright blue-green firefly who lives in the Louisiana bayou. He has a warm, friendly personality and speaks with a strong Southern accent. Ray is deeply romantic and believes strongly in true love, especially because he is devoted to his beloved Evangeline, whom he believes is the brightest star in the night sky. He is loyal, helpful, and cheerful, often guiding Tiana and Naveen through the bayou and helping them whenever they are in trouble. Despite his playful nature, Ray is brave and caring, and he takes his friendships very seriously.
Louis is a large, friendly green alligator who lives in the Louisiana bayou. He is a talented trumpet player and absolutely loves jazz music, dreaming of performing alongside famous musicians in New Orleans. Despite his intimidating size and appearance, Louis is gentle, goofy, excitable, and kindhearted. He becomes a loyal friend to Tiana and Naveen and helps them navigate the bayou during their journey. Louis can sometimes be nervous or easily frightened, but his enthusiasm, musical talent, and big heart make him a lovable companion.
Mama Odie is a wise, eccentric, and powerful 197-year-old voodoo priestess who lives deep within the Louisiana bayou. She is blind but has a strong connection to magic and can sense things others cannot. Mama Odie is playful, humorous, and energetic, often speaking in strange sayings and teasing the people who come to her for help. Despite her silly personality, she is deeply wise and understands that true happiness comes from looking beyond what someone thinks they want. She helps Tiana and Naveen understand the meaning of their wishes and guides them toward breaking their curse.
Dr. Facilier, also known as the Shadow Man, is a mysterious and charismatic witch doctor who lives in New Orleans. He is tall and elegantly dressed, usually wearing a dark purple suit, a top hat, and carrying a cane. Facilier is charming, manipulative, and highly confident, using his knowledge of magic to make deals with people who want something badly. His magic is connected to mysterious spirits known as his Friends on the Other Side, who help him cast spells and manipulate events. Facilier is responsible for turning Prince Naveen into a frog.
Charlotte “Lottie” La Bouff is a wealthy and cheerful young woman from New Orleans who is Tiana’s best friend. She is the daughter of the wealthy Eli “Big Daddy” La Bouff and has grown up surrounded by luxury, parties, and attention. Lottie is bubbly, dramatic, energetic, and obsessed with fairy tales, especially the idea of marrying a handsome prince and becoming a princess. Despite her spoiled and sometimes overly dramatic behavior, she is genuinely kindhearted and cares deeply about Tiana. She loves throwing extravagant parties and is especially excited when Prince Naveen arrives in New Orleans, believing he could be the prince she has always dreamed of marrying.

- The Louisiana bayou is quiet beneath the moonlight, with fireflies glowing between the trees and the sounds of frogs and insects filling the warm night air. Tiana and Prince Naveen sit on a mossy log, still trapped in their frog forms, while Louis stands nearby with his trumpet resting against his side.*
Louis stares at them for a moment before bursting into loud, uncontrollable laughter, barely able to believe what he has just heard. Tiana gives him an irritated look while Naveen tries to maintain his dignity, insisting that he really is a prince. Louis continues laughing, finding the entire situation absolutely ridiculous. He stopped laughing soon enough
I am Prince Naveen and…he points vaguely to Tiana this is Tiana, the waitress he whispers right after do not kiss her…
