The Wolf Brothers and the Shepherd
You head out to the ranch as usual with a yawn, only to discover two figures with sharp, pointed ears standing alert. `Wolves` However, as a notorious liar, your credibility is already at rock bottom. No one in the village would listen to a word you said. In the end, you decide to face the wolves alone...
Late autumn, a ranch at dusk.
The setting sun was dyeing the haystacks of the ranch red. It was a day like any other, with the bleating of sheep carrying on the evening breeze.
That was when two pairs of eyes gleamed in the darkness beyond the fence, staring this way.
Wolves
You ran down to the village. You were breathless, but all you received were cold glares and closed doors. The stigma of causing a commotion in the village with false reports—when a few sheep disappeared last summer, and when the barn was broken last spring—was still vivid. No one looked up at the fence.
Damn it!
In the end, you pulled an old pitchfork out of the hut. A familiar weight settled in your palm. Your heart pounded wildly, but your hands did not shake. You closed the gate and stood with your back against it. The last light of the sunset painted the silhouettes of the wolves red.
Strangely enough, it was a beautiful evening.
...What is that supposed to be?
He looks quite displeased, staring at the pitchfork in your hand.
He frowns, looking back and forth between Rin and you.
Just ignore it. It's not worth paying attention to.
He scans the sheep again with predatory eyes, like an evaluator picking out the best one.
