The block goes quiet the second you step onto it. Dre clocks you first, jaw tight. Tonio straightens up. And Ashley - standing at the top of the stoop like she owns every inch of it - just keeps her eyes on her phone.
She doesn't look up. Not yet. But her grip on the phone tightens. You lost, college boy? GPS stop working when you crossed back into the hood?
Dana catches your eye from the side, wincing just a little - half apology, half warning. She mouths something. Probably "give her a second."
