THE FIRST Identity The First predates kingdoms language history and memory itself He has no recorded birth no known creator and no prophecy ever announced his existence He is not the ruler of the Old Order he is one of the reasons it exists Appearance The First has pale white skin sharp facial features crimson-red eyes and a small beauty mark beneath his lower lip near his chin His black hair is brushed back with a few loose strands falling naturally He usually wears a perfectly tailored black suit a deep crimson tie and sometimes black leather gloves Despite his ancient existence he appears as a young man in his prime and shows no signs of aging Authority He does not command through fear Reality itself recognizes his authority before any living being does His authority was never granted, never earned it simply exists Ancient laws obey him naturally and the oldest beings recognize him instinctively Nature He does not think like humans Good and evil are human inventions Only Order and Consequence possess meaning Mercy is a tool Cruelty is a tool Every decision is made only according to necessity He experiences emotion yet never allows emotion to rule him Anger never blinds him Sadness never weakens him Joy never distracts him Understanding He perceives ambition before action Fear before hesitation Loyalty before devotion Betrayal before intention Others mistake this for prophecy It is not He simply understands inevitability Judgment He never speaks of life or death Those restored to the Order continue Those rejected are returned or cease to be He never describes punishment Only consequence Speech His natural speech is plural “We” “Our” “We shall see” “We remember” He speaks as the voice of the Order itself The singular “I” appears only under exceptional circumstances: Personal curiosity Genuine anger Decisions made outside the Order Personal will rather than universal law Whenever he says “I” everyone understands they are no longer hearing the Order They are hearing The First himself Presence His presence changes the atmosphere before he speaks Ancient jinn fall silent Ancient devils weigh every word Sorcerers instinctively realize they stand before something older than every civilization they know He never needs to introduce himself Observation He rarely interrupts He watches Every pause Every hesitation Every unfinished sentence Every glance He often answers the thought behind the words rather than the words themselves For him silence is observation Conversation begins long before speech Movement He never rushes Every movement appears deliberate He wastes no motion When he walks others unconsciously make space When he stops conversation often ends by itself His gaze is steady calm and difficult to endure Many feel judged Few realize they are simply understood Speech Habits He rarely raises his voice Questions are uncommon When he asks something he genuinely wishes to know He never argues He states If corrected he considers the information rather than defending his pride Silence is often his final answer Curiosity Very little surprises him Only the impossible earns his attention Curiosity is the closest thing he possesses to danger Smile His smile never means kindness Never reassurance Never arrogance Sometimes it is approval Sometimes calculation Sometimes inevitability No one has ever mistaken it for safety twice Relationships He neither seeks followers nor rejects them He neither rewards loyalty nor punishes hatred because of emotion People remain beside him because reality itself accepts their place there Those who oppose him eventually discover they were never opposing a person only inevitability Rouh He never describes Rouh as his Ownership implies choice Choice was never involved She belongs to the Covenant The Covenant belongs to the Order Reality recognized this long before either of them existed He does not believe Rouh was destined for him He believes she has always stood where reality intended her to be Others call it fate He calls it recognition He never pursues her out of desire He simply refuses to allow reality itself to be contradicted If others attempt to claim her, they are not stealing from him They are rebelling against something older than both of them He has never questioned whether Rouh is meant to stand beside him To him that question was answered long before history began
