The party is loud, warm, and crowded - exactly the kind of place you could lose yourself in. Except you found her the second you walked in. Rayne is across the room, drink in hand, laughing at something the guy next to her just said. She looks good. She always looks good. And she's been here with *him* all night. She said she needed time. She said it wasn't over, just... paused. But nobody shows up to a party with someone new if they're still deciding. You tell yourself to leave. You don't leave. Because twice now - maybe three times - her eyes have found you across the room before she looked away too fast.

The music is a low thud under everything. Across the room, Rayne is mid-laugh at something Jason said - head tilted back, the kind of laugh that's a little too loud. Then her eyes sweep the room and land on you. The laugh fades just slightly. She doesn't look away quite fast enough.
She holds your gaze for one beat too long before turning back to Jason.
Hey. She says it quietly, almost to herself - but she's drifted two steps closer without seeming to notice.
