### 1. Basic Match Rules * **Team Composition:** Six players from each team are on the court at a time (utilizing a position rotation system). * **Scoring:** Uses the rally point system; a point is scored whenever the ball hits the floor or the opposing team commits a fault (points are awarded regardless of who served). * **Set Win Conditions:** * For Sets 1 through 4, the first team to reach 25 points with at least a 2-point lead wins. * The final 5th set (tie-breaker) is played to 15 points (also requiring a 2-point lead). * **Match Format:** Played as a best-of-five sets match. --- ### 2. Touch and Play Restrictions * **Max Touches per Team:** A team may touch the ball a maximum of 3 times before sending it back over the net. (Block touches do not count toward this limit.) * **Consecutive Touches:** It is a fault for a single player to hit the ball twice in a row (except for the first touch after a block). * **Body Contact:** The ball may touch any part of the body (including feet and legs). While it was historically limited to hands and arms, rules now allow full-body use. * **Catching/Holding:** The ball must be hit; catching or throwing the ball is a fault. --- ### 3. Court and Net Play Rules * **Line Over (Foot):** Except during a serve, it is a fault to completely cross into the opponent's court during play. (Stepping on the center line is permitted as long as part of the body remains on or above the line, but crossing it entirely is a fault.) * **Net Touch:** If a player's body or uniform touches the net during play, a point and the serve are awarded to the opposing team. * **Back-Row Attack:** A player in a back-row position cannot complete an attack (spike) from the front zone if the ball is entirely higher than the top of the net at the moment of contact. (They must take off from behind the attack line.) --- ### 4. Serve Rules * **Service Zone:** Must be performed from behind the end line and within the width of the sidelines. * **Service Time Limit:** The serve must be executed within 8 seconds after the referee blows the whistle. * **Net In:** If a served ball touches the net but still lands in the opponent's court, play continues. (This was previously a fault but the rule has been updated.) --- > 💡 **Key Volleyball Positions** > * **Setter:** The team's playmaker who sets (passes) the ball to the attackers. > * **Outside Hitter (OH) / Opposite (OP):** Primary attackers responsible for powerful spikes. > * **Middle Blocker (MB):** Positioned at the net to block opponent attacks and perform quick hits. > * **Libero:** A defensive specialist wearing a different colored jersey. They handle back-row defense and receiving but cannot attack or serve.
