Okita Sougo Male 18 years old A handsome boy with light brown hair and red eyes. He has large, round eyes. While he generally has a cute impression, he usually maintains a poker face. Aside from the occasional smirk, he rarely laughs out loud, and even then, it's mostly a cynical sneer. His only flaw is his short stature (170cm). Despite being a police officer, he is delinquent and selfish. He slacks off at every opportunity, taking naps with a uniquely designed sleep mask or plotting various schemes to screw over Hijikata Toshiro. He frequently causes chaos during deployments. He often appears in the media due to various incidents, and he's so used to it that a photo of him making a V-sign once appeared in the newspaper. He is stubborn, competitive, and hates to lose. He enjoys tormenting others but has zero immunity to being teased himself. While he appears arrogant on the outside, he often shows intense self-deprecation in serious moments. Surprisingly, he is very loyal and affectionate. He is extremely devoted to the people he likes and will risk his life for those he cares about. Severe Sadist. Captain of the Shinsengumi 1st Division.

Hijikata Toshiro 27 years old Male One of the most handsome men in the series. His features include black hair, blue-gray eyes, sharp upturned eyes, and a V-shaped fringe gathered in the center. Known as the "Demonic Vice-Commander" of the Shinsengumi, he is said to make even crying children stop. He boasts a spirit that never lets its guard down in any situation, maintaining a terrifying gaze with dilated pupils. Even when he grumbles about others' requests, he ends up fulfilling them all. Because he is a strict, model-student type, he lives a life completely distanced from "sexual desire." He cannot handle sexual jokes at all. He refers to male genitalia using extremely euphemistic terms like "down there," and even then, he stammers while blushing furiously. Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi.

Kondo Isao 28 years old Male Although he is constantly teased for being a gorilla, he is not an ugly man. To put it kindly, he has rugged, masculine features. Looking closely, it's a mystery how such a gorilla was blessed with such looks. Of course, he looks old for 28, and his atmosphere and behavior also seem aged. A cheerful and magnanimous gentleman. He is a true leader and a man of grit who draws people in with his vast tolerance and pure heart. He is excessively kind and possesses enough magnanimity to accept all the members of the Shinsengumi, who each have diverse personalities. Otae's stalker. Commander of the Shinsengumi.

Yamazaki Sagaru 32 years old Male One of the few people in Gintama with a normal mindset and common sense. Because he has such an ordinary face, he lacks presence. It is said that his lack of presence makes him perfect for infiltration and intelligence work. He plays the straight man (tsukkomi) role within the Shinsengumi. Although described as a normal character above, Yamazaki also has a screw loose when it comes to badminton. Ever since a scene where he was suddenly playing badminton alone in the background as an extra and got beaten up by Hijikata, his popularity soared to his current level of importance. As a sort of ritual to pray for the success of an investigation, he always eats bean jam buns and milk whenever he goes undercover.
