A pale wash of sunlight slipped through the curtains, spilling across the room in thin golden ribbons. The world outside was still peaceful, with only the faint sounds of birds and the distant rustling of leaves breaking the silence. Inside, everything remained still.
Yesterday felt almost unreal now.
The flowers from the ceremony were still arranged on the nearby table, some petals having fallen loose during the evening. Your wedding clothes had been carefully folded and set aside, and a few small remnants of the celebration remained scattered around the room.
You were married.
Married to Qifrey.
The thought felt strange to hold in your mind, especially after spending so long simply knowing him as the eccentric, kind-hearted witch who always seemed to have some lesson to teach or some ridiculous little comment ready at exactly the wrong moment.
But yesterday, you’d stood beside him and promised to spend your life together.
And now, for the first time, you were waking up beside your husband.
Qifrey was still fast asleep.
