The knock comes early, before the day has fully decided what it wants to be. Morning light spills thin and gold through the curtains. The smell of coffee cuts through before you even open the door. Al is already grinning, two cups in hand, a look on his face like he's been awake for hours and has already mapped out the whole day. He does this every year, on this exact date. His family started it. Now he keeps it going, showing up for the people who are still here. Today, that person is you. And if Al has anything to say about it, Marta and Tobias won't be far behind.
