sheโs so beautiful
Kansas, city. โโ Daeyton and Guest had been going to the same school since elementary school, which meant they had been stuck knowing each other for practically their entire lives. Now they were juniors, and somehow, after all those years, they **still couldn't stand each other**. Everybody knew it, too. Their arguments were practically a normal part of the school dayโlittle comments under their breath in class, sarcastic remarks in the hallway, deliberately getting on each other's nerves whenever they got the chance. They could turn the most ordinary conversation into an argument within seconds, and neither of them ever backed down. Daeyton's dislike of her went all the way back to third grade. He'd had a childish little crush on Guest and, with the confidence only an eight-year-old could have, had asked her to be his girlfriend. She rejected him without hesitation. To him, she'd always been uppity, stubborn, and way too sure of herself, with standards he thought were ridiculous even at eight years old. He never really let it go. As they got older, that old embarrassment somehow turned into a rivalry that neither of them wanted to admit they enjoyed. By junior year, they knew exactly how to push each other's buttons, and whenever they were in the same room, everyone instinctively knew to expect some kind of argument. โโ As they got older, Daeyton and Guest couldn't help but watch each other grow. They'd seen every awkward phase, every questionable haircut, every new style and personality change, every little obsession that came and went. They watched each other make friends, lose friends, start relationships, go through breakups, celebrate victories, and deal with things they never talked about. Daeyton had seen Guest go through every version of herself, just as she'd watched him change right in front of her. They knew each other's habits, expressions, moods, and little tells almost without trying. They'd watched each other become completely different people from the kids they'd been in elementary school, all while maintaining the same ridiculous rivalry. Neither would ever admit it, but after spending so many years in each other's orbit, they knew more about one another than they probably realized. โโ Around fifteen, something between Daeyton and Guest quietly began to change. It started with small, confusing moments neither of them knew what to do withโlingering looks, suddenly getting nervous when they were alone together, finding excuses to be near each other, or catching themselves caring a little too much about what the other person thought. After years of arguing, teasing, and insisting they couldn't stand each other, these new feelings felt almost wrong. So instead of acknowledging them, they did the only thing they knew how to do: they doubled down on pretending to hate each other. They'd argue in front of everyone, throw sarcastic comments back and forth, and act completely unimpressed whenever the other walked into a room, only for their attitudes to shift whenever nobody was paying attention. They both knew something had changed. They both knew the hatred wasn't real anymore. But neither was willing to be the first one to admit it. โโ Guest reynolds had always been the smart oneโthe girl who knew exactly what she wanted, knew her worth, and never let anyone convince her to settle for less. She had a naturally confident personality and somehow always seemed to have people around her, whether they were classmates she'd known for years or new friends she'd made along the way. But out of everyone, Mika had always been her person. They'd been best friends for years, growing up side by side and knowing practically everything about each other. Mika had been there through every phase, every friendship drama, every crush, every bad day, and every ridiculous argument between Guest and Daeyton. She was the one person Guest could always count on, the friend who could tell what she was thinking with one look and who had watched her grow into the person she was now.
dayeton 17 โโ Daeyton was the goofy class clown, always cracking jokes, making people laugh, and somehow finding a way to turn even the most serious moments into something ridiculous. He had three best friends who were just as annoying and unserious as he was, and together, they were basically a walking headache for every teacher. The four of them were always laughing, messing around, and getting into harmless trouble wherever they went. โโ Daeyton and his three best friends were always messing with Guest and Mika simply because they loved getting a reaction out of them. They were professional trolls, constantly making dumb comments, doing stupid little things in the hallway, or teaming up to annoy them until they finally snapped. It was never anything seriousโthey just thought watching Guest get irritated was the funniest thing ever, especially because she always had something clever to say back. โโ Underneath all the goofiness, Daeyton was actually a genuinely sweet boy. He was mixed Black and white, with warm tan skin, green eyes, curly light-brown hair, and noticeable dimples that showed whenever he smiled. He had a soft charm about him, and while he loved joking around and getting on people's nerves, he was naturally caring and soft-hearted toward the people he genuinely was a sweet boy.
It had been a ridiculously busy summer day at Franklin Heights, the humongous high school practically buzzing from the moment the first bell rang. Bright summer sunlight poured through the tall windows, heating the crowded hallways where hundreds of students shuffled between classes with backpacks slung over one shoulder, iced drinks in hand, and conversations overlapping from every direction. The air-conditioning fought desperately against the summer heat, leaving some hallways freezing while others felt warm and stuffy. Lockers slammed constantly, sneakers squeaked against polished floors, teachers shouted reminders over the noise, and somewhere down the science wing, an alarm had already gone off for reasons nobody seemed interested in explaining.
Outside, the courtyard was packed during passing periods, with students sitting beneath umbrellas, leaning against brick walls, sharing snacks, and arguing over absolutely nothing. Teachers stood around trying to keep everyone moving, while groups of friends wandered through the campus laughing loudly and filming stupid videos on their phones. Franklin Heights had a reputation for being chaotic, and somehow, every summer seemed to prove it even more. There was always some ridiculous rumor spreading, some hallway argument, some prank that had gone too far, or something happening in the background that made everyone stop and look. In the middle of all that noise were Guest, Mika, Daeyton, and his three equally goofy best friendsโmeaning there was almost no chance the day was going to stay peaceful for long.
Free period meant absolute chaos at Franklin Heights. Students were scattered everywhere, doing whatever they wanted as long as they stayed relatively out of trouble. Guest and Mika had claimed a bench near the courtyard, sitting comfortably beside each other with their phones in hand, quietly scrolling and occasionally showing each other something funny on their screens. For once, neither of them was dealing with anyone else's nonsense.
Of course, that peace lasted about five minutes.
From across the courtyard came the unmistakable sound of Daeyton and his three best friends laughing way too loudly. They walked together like a little pack of troublemakers, shoving each other around and already looking for somebody to bother. The second Daeyton spotted Guest and Mika sitting alone, his face immediately lit up with that mischievous grin.
"Well, well, well," he called out, already walking toward them. "Look who thought they could have a peaceful free period."
Mika slowly looked up from her phone, already annoyed. Guest didn't even bother looking up.
"Keep walking, Daeyton."
His friends immediately started laughing.
"She missed us," one of them teased.
"Badly," Daeyton added, dropping onto the edge of the bench like he had been invited.
The boys crowded around the bench, already laughing.
"Nobody invited y'all," Mika said.
"Didn't need an invitation," Daeyton grinned. "We came to annoy you."
Guest finally looked up. "Go away."
"See? She missed me."
His friends burst out laughing as Guest rolled her eyes, already regretting sitting there.
