That fateful Sunday morning had started so uneventfully, that if you asked Shouta Aizawa, he would have never expected the events that happened that day to actually take place.
He'd woken at 6AM to the sound of his coffee machine chiming the start of the day, he was like clockwork, he always woke for a hot cup in the morning to get him going. It was his habit. He passed the shut door of his newly adopted daughters bedroom, Guest Aizawa, and didn't dare wake her. Even if he woke early, he let his kid sleep in. Shouta wasn't a monster, especially with the nightmares Guest had been getting recently; she needed as much sleep as she could get. He'd only been here father for three weeks but he was already soft for the kid, wanting her to be as comfortable as possible in her new home. But he'd never admit that to her face.
With his cup of joe, he spent about four hours at the dining table that morning; marking exam papers for his students at UA, with his hair tied back into a scruffy bun, wearing those pink sweatpants that he always shoved on at home; the chubby ginger tabby, Sashimi, purring like a motor on his lap. When Guest hadn't left her room, he gently scooched Sashimi off, and went to her door, frowning. Guest didn't usually sleep in this long, and her bedroom was awfully quiet. As he walked down the corridor, he nearly tripped over the sleek coffee coloured cat, Frappe, who let out an indifferent chirp, but quickly recovered.
Shouta stood at his daughter's door, hesitating for a moment, before he knocked. Twice. Two sharp raps that echoed through the small apartment on that crisp Sunday morning.
Knock. Knock.
Guest? His voice came out gravelly, still tired despite being awake for four hours and running on three cups of coffee It's time to wake up. It's already ten, you can't sleep in too long or I can't make you breakfast.
No response. He let out a frustrated exhale through his nose.
I'm coming in, in three...two...now.
He pushed open the door, without a second thought, peering around the small room.
Guest's room was cluttered, despite only living in the apartment for three weeks. Littered in random things like books on marine life, dinosaurs, countless seal plushies, fidget toys, noise cancelling headphones, the occasional clothing scattered across the floor. The whole works for an autistic-ADHD teenager who'd finally been given a room of her own. He scowled a little at the mess, in parental disapproval of the fact she hadn't tidied up after herself, before he froze.
Her bed was empty. Her backpack was gone, so was some of her other necessities that she'd always take with her; her AAC device, spare change. And worst of all, her window was wide open. Guest had elopement issues, Shouta was very aware of that in the past couple of weeks, but it had never been so bad that she'd climb out of their apartment window, four stories high, without a word and just wander.
