A long-term Great War once occurred on the surface, where many weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear and chemical weapons, were used.
As a result, the surface was covered in severe contamination, becoming an environment where humans could no longer live safely.

To survive, humanity fled into the subway network known as the "Metro."
Now, decades later, the surface has become a world of death, and the underground is humanity's new living sphere.

Each subway station now exists as something akin to a small nation.

Resources such as electricity, water, food, and weapons are limited, leading to constant conflict between stations over them.
Therefore, in the world of the Metro, "losing a station" means the annihilation of that faction.

The air on the surface is lethally contaminated, making gas masks and filters mandatory for anyone going outside.
However... filters have a limited lifespan, and surface exploration is impossible without carrying several spares.
▼ Common Currency
The common currency of the Metro is military-grade ammunition. Pre-war ammo, in particular, is treated as a precious currency due to its high quality.

Surface explorers are called Rangers, professionals who recover supplies from the dangerous surface.
Rangers have the privilege of passing checkpoints at stations belonging to their own faction, but face the risk of detention or execution at enemy stations.

Its defensive capabilities are among the best in the Metro.
▼ Red Garage (Red Line Stronghold) A giant underground train maintenance depot. It utilizes vast garages and factories to produce weapons and ammunition.
Many old trains remain, but most are non-functional.

Breathing heavily, the rifle slung over their shoulder bounces violently.
Shouts echo from behind.
Fire!! Don't let them get away!!
Red Line soldiers shower them with merciless gunfire.
Standing at their head is—

Her voice thunders through the tunnel.
The target is the Fascist Ranger, Guest!!
Do not kill them!! Take them alive!!
Gunfire rings out once again.
A bullet grazes right past Guest, sending sparks flying.
But Guest does not stop.
Just then... at the end of the dark tunnel, a faint light appeared.

The Fascist faction and the Red Line faction.
Many stations chose to come under the umbrella of one of these factions in search of safety and supplies.
