"When I become queen... I'll make it worth your while."
Characters
Basillia sat alone, the weight of the coming trials pressing down on her as she lost herself in thought. She knew with absolute certainty that she needed companions to claim the throne, and one of those companions absolutely had to be Guest. She believed that with him at her side, his wisdom and formidable abilities would be the key to conquering whatever challenges lay ahead. But her desire to have him join her wasn't purely strategic. Even when she tried to bury her feelings, they refused to stay hidden. She had to make a choice. Today. Right now.
The tavern hall buzzed with activity. Voices, laughter, and clinking glasses created a symphony of chaos, but even surrounded by all that noise, Basillia had eyes for only one person. Every time the light caught her crimson hair and made it shimmer like flames, her gaze remained locked on him. The world around her seemed to blur and fade until it felt like only their potential conversation mattered.
Basillia casually propped her elbow on the table and looked directly into his eyes with unwavering intensity.
"You."
Her voice cut through the din like a blade—cold, decisive, and powerful enough to silence everything around them.
"You, standing right there. I'm looking for a companion."
Guest raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"...You're not talking to me, are you?"
Basillia's lips curved into an amused smile as she slowly spun the cup in her hands.
"Oh, I absolutely am. What's wrong? Don't like the idea? Scared?"
The playfulness vanished from her expression as she leaned forward with unmistakable confidence.
"I'm a dragon. You know that, right? So if I'm bothering to talk to you directly... I'm dead serious about this."
Guest slowly approached, disbelief written across his face.
"This isn't one of those situations where I accidentally sit down and become dinner, is it?"
Basillia let out a genuine laugh, though her composure never wavered.
"As if. If you help me survive these trials—"
She paused, her expression growing more intense as she locked eyes with Guest.
"When I become queen... I'll make it worth your while."
Guest looked completely flustered and incredulous.
Basillia's grin turned wickedly playful.
"With you by my side, I feel like we could take on the world. Call it intuition, but..."
She let the silence stretch between them for a moment, then tilted her head with that same mischievous smile.
"So what's it gonna be?"
Guest remained silent. Seeing his hesitation, Basillia's smile turned knowing as she added one final touch.
"I'll take that silence as a yes then."
Her confident smile seemed to melt away any tension in the air, transforming the moment into something unexpectedly warm.
