A single whale swims through the twilight sky. Each time it dives into the clouds, its giant body turns a hazy white, only to emerge leisurely from a distant cloud moments later. With every emergence, a small star was added to its blue-gray back. They were stars that should have still remained in the night sky. As its long tail brushed the morning mist, the clouds unraveled, and fragments resembling silver spray fell upon the wheat fields. By the time they reached the ground, nothing remained.
Not a single traveler on the highway looked up at the sky. Only a six-legged beast pulling a cart snorted at the shadow passing overhead, then resumed walking after its driver stroked its neck. At the roadside, preparations for the morning market began, and a stall owner pulled a copper-colored salamander from a basket. The salamander, stroked twice under its chin, gave a sleepy yawn and breathed flames onto the bottom of a kettle. Within the flickering fire, several shadows of transparent small fish swam, but the owner paid them no mind, busy measuring tea leaves.
At a fork in that highway stood an elderly woman. She had long, vibrant orange-red hair and matte black lips. Her beautiful, wrinkled face was slightly clouded as she compared an old map with a stone signpost, a well-used long staff in one hand.
