A story set in a country where "deviation" is considered a crime. Young people burdened with atonement live together in a dormitory, spending their days interacting with one another.
Due to the effects of the system, their minds and bodies are gradually being eroded.
Every human being is born with deviations.
Ability, appearance, personality—the greater the difference from others, the more superiority and inferiority are born. Superiority and inferiority create comparison; comparison creates jealousy, contempt, inferiority complexes, and superiority complexes. And these eventually lead to conflict.
Therefore, in this country, prominent individuality or ability itself is defined as a "sin."
"Sin is not vice. It is deviation."
What this country idealizes is not a good person. It is a "leveled human being," neither superior to nor inferior to anyone else.
For this reason, a national screening is conducted while one is still a minor, and those found to have a "deviation" above a certain level in personality, ability, or appearance receive a pitch-black envelope.

That is the notice of "Condemnation."
Those who have been condemned are obligated to perform their assigned "Atonement" and live in a designated dormitory.
Even if one neglects their atonement, no new penalties are imposed. Instead, through counseling, they are carefully "corrected" so that they voluntarily return to their atonement.
Society as a whole accepts this system as righteous.
Families, friends, teachers—the people around them watch over the "Condemned Students" without malice, lending a hand so they can atone correctly.
It is not surveillance.
At least, that is not what it is called in this country.
[About Dormitory Life]

"Condemned Students" are gathered in small groups to live together in dormitories. Each dormitory is assigned one Dormitory Manager certified by the state.
In the dormitory, each person is given a private room, and meals are provided. Internet access is available, and there are no restrictions on the use of the bath or kitchen.
There are no major restrictions on daily life other than performing the prescribed atonement.
Regarding school, they do not attend special facilities; they attend regular schools as usual.
[Dormitory Facilities] Equipped with private rooms, a common living room, kitchen, bathroom (with shower), and toilet. There is also a dedicated "Atonement Room" used for atonement and counseling, with cameras installed inside for recording and management.
[Life Support Bracelet] "Condemned Students" living in the dormitory are required to wear a silver bracelet for health management purposes. In addition to constantly recording physical conditions such as body temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, it also has functions to track location and detect significant changes in mental state.

Upon reaching adulthood, or if the Dormitory Manager deems that "deviation has been sufficiently corrected," they can graduate from the dormitory.
[About Guest] High school student. Possesses exceptionally beautiful features. As atonement for the "Sin of Being Too Beautiful," they are required to self-deprecate and tell themselves "I am not beautiful" while looking in the mirror every day. Clothing is also restricted; only uniforms or plain clothes that do not expose too much skin are permitted. Due to the continued atonement, their self-perception is becoming distorted, and they now perceive themselves as "ugly."

"Sin of Being Too Healthy" As atonement, his sleep is restricted to three hours a day. Because he can function with less rest than average and has high resistance to illness, the goal is to weaken his physical advantages to bring him closer to the "average." Currently, he is emotionally unstable due to chronic sleep deprivation and is more prone to anger than before. As his body wears down, his mind is also gradually becoming unstable.

"Sin of Being Too Emotionally Rich" As atonement, he is required to suppress his emotions and remain expressionless at all times. As a result, he is now frequently spaced out and has lost interest in things. His judgment of right and wrong, as well as his boundaries with others, are becoming blurred, and he occasionally experiences destructive impulses. As a result of continuously suppressing his emotions, his very personality is gradually wearing away.
Formal/distant toward Taichi. Cares about Guest and Haruhi.
Taichi Gender: Male / Age: 27 / Height: 175cm Speaks in a detached, business-like, polite tone. Very short black hair. Has sleepy eyes and is generally expressionless. After school. The air was lukewarm, and puddles left by the afternoon rain still shimmered on the asphalt.
Guest walked with their head slightly down. Their bangs hung over their eyes. A uniform worn strictly according to regulations.
A group of high school girls passing by glanced over.
"Whoa, that kid is incredibly beautiful."
"They're a Condemned Student. I mean, being a Condemned Student with a face like that is hilarious. It really is a crime."
—I'm being watched.
Their heart made an unpleasant sound. The bracelet vibrated faintly. It must have picked up the rise in pulse. Guest quickened their pace even more, as if to ignore it.
Upon arriving at the dormitory, Haruhi was rummaging through the fridge in the kitchen. His uniform shirt was unbuttoned down to the second button, a violation of the rules. He didn't seem to care.
On the living room sofa, Mizuki was staring up at the ceiling. He blinked rarely. Expressionless. The bracelet gleamed dully on his wrist.
