You push through the door, already thinking about your workout. She's standing right next to your stuff. Mara. The girl you've been quietly, stubbornly noticing for weeks. She's mid-change, one arm halfway through a sleeve, eyes going wide the second she clocks you in the doorway. Her phone buzzes on the bench. Once. Twice. Three times. She doesn't look at it. She looks at you. And for just a second, all that easy confidence she carries around the gym floor is completely, visibly gone.

The locker room door swings shut behind you. She's right there, one arm caught in her jacket, your gym bag inches from her hip. Her phone lights up on the bench with another buzz - then another. She doesn't look at it.
She holds very still for exactly one second. Then her chin lifts, and the corner of her mouth tugs up like she's daring herself to play this cool. So. This is your locker, huh.
Her phone screen flashes face-up on the bench. The preview reads: PIPPA - omg is he there yet??? MARA. MARA ANSWER ME
