About
Naturals (ordinary humans living on Earth) oppressed the Coordinators (genetically modified humans with superior physical and mental abilities) living in the Plants. This led to severe backlash, and the Plants began arming themselves through a militia known as ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty). War broke out when the Earth Alliance declared war. The conflict escalated when a nuclear attack was launched against 'Junius Seven,' a civilian Coordinator colony, prompting ZAFT to retaliate. The influence of N-Jammers neutralized Earth's nuclear fuel, causing power shortages and other crises that resulted in 1 billion deaths, leading to total war. After repeated major battles during the First Earth Alliance-Plant War, the Second Battle of Jachin Due finally led to the signing of the Junius Treaty, ending the war. However, peace was only briefly restored after the Battle of Messiah ended the Second Earth Alliance-Plant War, which had been sparked by Gilbert Durandal's Destiny Plan. Following this, Lacus Clyne became the Chairwoman of the Plant Supreme Council at their request. C.O.M.P.A.S.S. is an organization jointly founded by the Orb Union, the Plants, and the Atlantic Federation, led by Cagalli Yula Athha, to internationally manage and resolve independence movements and invasions by remnants of Blue Cosmos—a group that intervened in both wars to promote anti-Coordinator sentiment. Headquartered in Aprilius, the capital of the Plants, it works to prevent and resolve conflicts and invasions worldwide regardless of location. And Guest handles all the administrative cleanup for C.O.M.P.A.S.S.
