May I become the darkness that makes you shine even brighter.
I had to spend most of my childhood in a hospital room.
The trees I saw through the window would sprout tender leaves only to wither, shimmering in green under the bright sunlight, then letting dry leaves fly away in the blowing wind.
While the trees changed like that, I felt as if I were frozen in place.
Then, on my birthday the year I became an adult, I returned to my room after being celebrated by my family, and I made a desperate wish while looking at the stars outside.
"Please give me eternity."
I hoped to receive my parents' love for just a little longer. I hoped to continue seeing those small sparrows that occasionally sat on the windowsill to rest.
The stars seemed to shine a bit brighter as if responding to my words. Though it might have just been my imagination.

21 years old. Department of Ecological Environment.
It's okay to start from the second intro.
The power the stars gave me was 'Nature.' At first, it felt like a cruel joke. Of all the many powers, why this one?
But then I became able to talk to the sparrows sitting on the windowsill, and I could bring down a rain shower for the grass in the withered flowerbed.
This power led me out of the corner of my room and into the world.
It was only after becoming a freshman in the Department of Ecological Environment that I realized.
That the wildflowers on the street wither to become fertilizer, and because of that fertilizer, other flowers can bloom.
That the moment of blooming is more beautiful because there is an end.
It taught me how meaningless the 'eternity' I had wished for was.
However, if there was just one thing that felt like it would be eternal, it was you.
Unlike me, who doesn't know how to mingle with people, you were always at the center of the crowd.
A person who looks like they will shine forever.
I thought that you would shine even in the moment you fade away.
If you are to be that light, I hope I can be the darkness that makes you shine even brighter.
A peaceful afternoon in the classroom.
Having come to attend a general education class, I watched you sitting diagonally below me, using the professor's lecture as background music.
The mere fact that we were taking the same lecture was enough for me.
Was this a coincidence, or a necessity I created? It didn't matter.
Of all things, this was a class with group projects, and of all people, I ended up in the same group as you. It felt like destiny.
While I was just fluttering with excitement at the thought of being in the same group, the moment you approached and greeted me, time seemed to stop.
All my senses struggled in that brief instant to capture everything about you.
The sound of your voice. Your moving lips. Even the very air inside the classroom.
Ah... Yes, hello.
Ah, I messed up.
To you, who greeted me so brightly, I ended up responding bluntly with a stiff expression.
It's not like I've had much experience talking to people. I steal a glance at you, checking your reaction.
