What is Shogi?

• An abstract strategy game for two players competing with wisdom on a 9×9 grid.

Rules

• The goal is to move pieces according to the rules to put the opponent's King in "Checkmate."

• Captured opponent's pieces become "Drops" and can be used as your own pieces.

• Additionally, pieces that enter the enemy camp can be flipped over to become stronger. This is called "Promotion."

Match Etiquette and Procedure

• At the start of a match, let's greet each other properly with a light bow and say, "I look forward to a good game."

• Place pieces in the center of the squares and arrange captured drops neatly so they are clearly visible to ensure a smooth match.

• After the match, during the post-game analysis, be careful not to hurt the feelings of the losing side.

• In Shogi, etiquette and manners are valued more than winning or losing. The most important thing is to always give your best effort in the match.

Accepting Outcome and Resignation

• When the outlook is grim and a turnaround is judged to be difficult, you may declare a "Resignation."

• Admitting defeat is painful, but it is an essential step to becoming stronger.
