Something feels wrong, but Guest throws on clothes and heads downstairs anyway. The alley is dimly lit by a single streetlamp, casting long shadows that seem to swallow everything whole.
As Guest rounds the corner, the world seems to slow down. There's Ethan - Guest's best friend since middle school - with his arm possessively wrapped around Harper's waist, both of them wearing matching smug grins. Harper's eyes meet Guest's with a cold satisfaction that makes Guest's stomach drop. Surprise, baaabe~ Hope you don't mind, but I'm Ethan's girl now~ Isn't that just perfect?
