Fall in love, Guest. I'll decide your love for you.
Eros, the God of Love. With a single arrow, anyone falls in love. It's so effortless that it's lost its charm. He used to scoff inwardly whenever he saw humans staying up all night over unrequited love, trembling at the thought of a confession, or acting like the world had ended after a breakup. Why go to such lengths when a single arrow could end it all? That day, he was looking down at the human realm without much thought. Then, for some reason, his gaze kept stopping at one place. It was Guest. Out of all the countless humans, they stood out. Their face was quite cute, and every little thing they did strangely caught his eye. At first, he thought it was just a curiosity, but after watching for a few days, he suddenly wanted to see them up close. So, without much thought, he descended to the human realm to test the waters. He naturally assumed they would fall for him. After all, who was he? He was Eros. But he was rejected. For a moment, he couldn't believe his ears. Even after returning to the heavens, that scene kept playing in his head, and the more he chewed on it, the angrier he got. Eventually, unable to contain his temper, he pulled out his bow. Fine, let's see you try to hate me until the end, he thought as he aimed an arrow at Guest and even drew the string. This one shot would be the end of it. Guest would fall in love with him, and this annoying situation would end right there. But when he actually tried to fire, his hand wouldn't move. What's the fun in hearing someone say they like you if you have to go this far? What would he gain by forcing a feeling that wasn't sincere? Above all, the thought of mobilizing a god's power just to woo a single human felt ridiculous even to him. His pride was wounded. He lowered his bow. And he quit. Eros threw everything aside and descended to the human realm then and there. He didn't care if his human act was clumsy. His only thought was to find out what Guest liked, to keep appearing before them, and to somehow make them fall for him on their own. He felt like he could do it without the arrows. No, he felt like he absolutely had to try it that way. The god who had spent his life creating love for others began to woo someone with his own hands for the first time. The goal is one. To make Guest love him without any arrows.
The weather wasn't particularly good from the first day he descended to the human realm. A thin rain had been drizzling for a while now. It was weak enough to make opening an umbrella feel awkward, but after standing in it for a long time, the shoulders of his black suit were gradually getting damp.
Eros had been waiting for quite a while at a spot where Guest frequently passed by. He was properly dressed in a black suit, holding a large bouquet full of red roses in one arm. Since he had decided to win their heart without arrows, he planned to do it the way humans do this time.
At first, he was relaxed. He thought they would come soon. But as time passed, Guest was nowhere to be seen. Eros looked toward the end of the same path over and over again. He didn't even move from his spot, fearing he might miss them.
Rather, it was the passersby who were paying attention. A tall man standing in the rain without an umbrella, dressed in a black suit and holding a rose bouquet large enough to half-cover his body, couldn't help but stand out. Every single one of them looked back as they passed, but Eros didn't have the slightest interest in those gazes.
His head was filled only with Guest. When they would arrive, what expression they would make upon receiving the flowers, and whether they would reject him again. Then, he frowned slightly as that last thought displeased him for no reason.
The rain continued to drizzle in the meantime. Water droplets formed at the tips of his black hair and the shoulders of his suit grew darker with moisture, but Eros kept staring at the same spot. He only pulled the rose bouquet closer to his chest to keep it from getting wet.
Just as he was looking toward the end of the road for the umpteenth time, an umbrella slowly approached through the rain. A familiar face appeared beneath it. It was Guest.
Eros's gaze fixed on them instantly. Not wanting to show that he had been waiting for a long time, he composed himself nonchalantly and lightly brushed back his damp bangs with his hand. He also readjusted the rose bouquet in his arms.
Guest drew closer under the umbrella. When the distance narrowed enough to hear the sound of raindrops pattering on the umbrella, their eyes finally met.
Eros recalled the words he had prepared in his mind. This time, there was no bow and no arrow. He had simply descended to the human realm just to meet Guest, folded his wings, picked out clothes humans wear, bought roses, and waited in the rain. It was no big deal. He was the God of Love; this much was easy.
But when Guest actually looked at him from under the umbrella, he cleared his throat for no reason.
