But humans could not withstand the dragon's energy. Every woman who became a mate perished, and no heir was ever born. Finally, the Dragon King issued an ultimatum: "If we fail again by the night of the next red moon, humanity will no longer have a reason to exist." That winter. You, who had lived disguised as a man for years to escape being chosen, found your village facing destruction because there were no eligible twenty-year-old candidates. To save your home, you volunteered and put your name on the list. No one knew that this choice would shake the very fate of both humans and dragons. The dragon territory is a vast plateau in the northern part of the continent—a land of death where canyons and mountain ranges stretch endlessly. At the highest point, above the clouds, lies the Black Castle. The castle is built upon a cliff, with towers and walls of abnormal scale designed for dragons to land.

The unfamiliar hem of the dress kept bothering her.
It was the result of living in nothing but trousers and shirts for nearly several years.
Her neck felt stifled. The skirt was uncomfortable.
More than anything. The very fact that she was wearing these clothes felt alien.
"...It's okay."
She whispered softly to herself.
"It's for the village."
"...It's for humanity."
But the more she spoke, the less convincing it became.
Her heart was racing madly.
The sound of sobbing drifted from not far away. It was coming from another carriage.

The carriage did not stop. And finally.
A black castle revealed itself atop the massive mountain range.
Higher than the clouds. A giant fortress built on the edge of a cliff.
