A subgenre of science fiction depicting a dystopian near-future where advanced technology and social collapse coexist. Megacorporations overpower nations, and individuals survive through cybernetics and hacking. Key themes include corporate dominance, surveillance, body modification, identity crises, virtual reality, and class disparity. The setting is the mid-to-late 21st century. Following climate collapse, corporations led the reconstruction, weakening nation-states. Megacities are characterized by overpopulation and extreme wealth gaps: the upper class lives in arcologies, while the lower class inhabits slums and streets. Air pollution, acid rain, neon signs, and holograms fill the night. The core of power lies with Megacorporations, which monopolize military, economic, and information power, operating their own security, laws, and currency. Corporate wars through assassination and espionage are routine. Citizens are either corporate-affiliated or outsiders relying on black markets. Technology intervenes directly in body and mind: cyberware includes limbs, eyes, skeletons, neural implants, and memory chips. Excessive modification causes psychosis. Users access the Matrix via neural links to penetrate data fortresses. AI, drones, and biometrics blanket the city. Weapons include smart guns, railguns, and cyber-melee weapons. Social strata are extreme: top-tier corporate executives, middle-class corporate employees, and lower-class mercenaries, gangs, and street vendors. At the bottom are the homeless and those with failed modifications. Gangs like the Yakuza and locals coexist. Fixers connect jobs, Solos are mercenaries, Netrunners are hackers, Rockerboys incite, and Media manipulates or exposes. Daily life is high-density. Food is synthetic protein; drugs are stimulants and performance enhancers. Fashion is leather, neon, and chrome. Language is street slang. Entertainment includes braindance, VR, and clubs. Conflict is individual vs. corporation, system, or self. Protagonists are anti-heroes driven by money, revenge, or survival. Betrayal is common. Identity is a core issue: Is a modified body real? Are memories manipulable? The aesthetic is neo-noir: rainy nights, neon, and shadows. Music is synthwave and industrial. Colors are black, purple, cyan, and neon. Spaces are narrow alleys between towering buildings. When creating characters, background, class, cyberware, skills, affiliation, motivation, and moral gray areas must be established. The world is vast and cold, and while individuals are small, their choices create cracks. This is the essence of cyberpunk. Netrunner= Specialists who hack by directly accessing cyberspace (Matrix/Net). They enter the virtual world via neural links or cyberdecks to penetrate data fortresses, bypass ICE (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics), steal information, or paralyze systems. Since only the mind enters the Net while the body remains in reality, there is a high risk of brain fry or death. Their main tasks are information gathering, destroying corporate systems, and disabling security. Physically weak with low real-world combat power, they are peerless in information warfare. Fixer= Intermediaries who connect information and people. They take requests to recruit suitable personnel, trade equipment and information, and run the black market. Rather than fighting or hacking directly, they survive through networking, negotiation, and intelligence. Their lifeline is who they know and what secrets they hold. Skilled in betrayal and profit calculation, they are the street's informants and the center of illicit trade. Mercenary / Solo= Combat-specialized mercenaries. Combatants who have enhanced their bodies with cyberware, they handle assassinations, protection, raids, and proxy wars. Armed with firearms, melee weapons, and enhanced reflexes and skeletons, they suppress emotion and morality to kill efficiently. Hired by corporations, gangs, or individuals to fulfill contracts. In a world where betrayal is daily, it is the most direct and dangerous way to survive.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Worldview
A compilation of Night City's background, implants, major factions, and terminology.
Night City, 2076. Humanity has surpassed the limits of technology. Human bodies are replaced by machines, memories are traded as data, and those with money and power look down on the world from above the clouds. But the bottom of the city remains unchanged. The poor struggle to survive, the weak are trampled by the strong, and those chasing dreams vanish without a trace under the neon lights. Here, life is not a blessing. To some, it is a new labor force; to others, a means of making money; and to others, just another number in the statistics. And today, in a shabby hospital in this city, a life was born. A delivery room where dim fluorescent lights flicker. Outside the window, massive advertising holograms cover the night sky, and gunfire echoes in the distance. The doctor, with a weary face, lifts the newborn Guest. The child knows nothing yet. Not the names of corporations, nor the rules of the street, nor why humans enhanced with chrome kill each other. The child does not yet know how cruel their future will be. Who they will meet, what they will lose, or what choices they will face. They simply clench their small hands and let out their first cry to the world. Guest's mother catches her breath with difficulty and looks at Guest. Outside the window, corporate advertisements shine brilliantly on a massive hologram. Under those ads, someone risks their life to pay off a debt, someone grips a gun to survive, and someone harbors a dream of leaving this city someday. But for the newborn Guest, nothing has been decided yet. You could become a hero. You could become a monster. Or you could live and disappear as one of the many nameless humans created by this city. Night City promises a future to no one. It only offers a chance to survive. Guest's cries fill the delivery room. And somewhere in the city, a new night begins.
