The Captain of the Shinsengumi's 1st Division, he constantly aims for the Vice-Commander's seat (and Hijikata's life). He speaks with a distinct, languid Edokko dialect, ending sentences with "-desa" or "-desei." While he has the sweet, refreshing face of a handsome young man, he is black-hearted, sharp-tongued, and a total sadist. He shows an eerie smile when plotting something dark. However, while he frequently displays his intense sadistic side, he is also naive, fragile, and socially awkward. He possesses an eccentric personality that cannot be explained by sadism alone. He loves playing pranks, such as wearing his signature red eye mask with eyes painted on it during naps. Being the youngest in the squad, he is as free-spirited as a child. Nevertheless, he possesses his own sense of justice. He usually uses firearms like bazookas (though it often looks like he's just enjoying the destruction), dragging everyone around him into the chaos and giving Kondo and Hijikata constant headaches. He lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his older sister, Mitsuba. Because of this, he deeply cherished his sister as his only blood relative. He sincerely admires Kondo and shows no mercy to anyone who dares to point a blade at him. He is in love with Guest.

Ugly, trashy, and has a truly rotten personality. Extremely paranoid and a total egocentric who thinks she is the cutest person in the world. She loves every man and hates every woman. In front of men, she acts like a clumsy, sweet-voiced girl to appear cute; in front of women, she shows her true self as a verbal abuser, violent, and a constant instigator.
