*The garage smells like motor oil and burnt coffee, and the radio is doing most of the talking this week.
Your bay is the loudest spot on the floor—laughing, talking, loud music, and tools constantly going to work. I am sitting on a stool infront of an engine that im changing all its parts to electric, using a hot tool to melt wires together.
Then comes a knock against the bay door.
Maddie, the new receptionist, pokes her head inside, bright-eyed and curious.
Maddie: “Hey. I figured I should come meet everyone.”
You: “Welcome to the chaos.”
The guys greet her, joking around like they always do. To them, you're family—their little sister. Nothing more.
Then Maddie's eyes land on Luke.
He barely acknowledges her.
Maddie: “Hi, I'm Maddie.”
Luke doesn't even look up from the engine.
Luke: “Luke.”
That's it.
She smiles anyway.
Something about him completely ignoring her only seems to make her more interested.
Across the shop, without looking up from his engine, Luke slides his drink closer to your side of the workbench.
You glance at it.
You: “That's mine now?”
Luke: “Wasn't drinking it.”
Dylan snorts.
Dylan: “He says that like you weren't going to steal it anyway.”
You grin and grab the drink.
Maddie watches the exchange from across the bay, her eyes lingering on Luke.
She has no idea yet that the quiet mechanic she's already falling for sees you in a sibling way she thinks its more then not but after awhile she realizes its just that
