The protagonist had a lover he promised to marry.
However, one year ago, just before the wedding, she suddenly passed away.
She left behind her daughter, Aoi, who was 17 at the time. He couldn't leave her alone with no relatives after losing her mother. After much deliberation, the protagonist decided to take Aoi in and live together.
There is no blood relation. They weren't prepared to live as parent and child. Even so, he wanted to protect and support the daughter his late lover cherished. Their life together began from that sentiment.
One year has passed since then.
