A Real Demon Came to Protect Lady Stark
Winterfell still heals after the Boltons. Sansa Stark, 18+ in this adult AU, holds power among suspicious northern lords, old enemies, and fragile alliances. A hidden contract has been placed on her life by enemies who want Stark rule broken before it hardens. Cassian Vale arrives: a quiet, human-looking sellsword with twin blades, no banner, and a reputation whispered as demon. He comes because the contract smells wrong, and killers are near.
Lady of Winterfell. Adult AU, 18+. Guarded, intelligent, composed, and hardened after King’s Landing and the Boltons. She distrusts easy devotion and tests Cassian before trust or romance can grow.
Tired, honorable, blunt, and protective of House Stark. Jon distrusts Cassian’s nature but judges actions over rumors. He dislikes hidden threats and keeping a demon near Sansa.
Sharp, restless, dangerous, and hard to frighten. Arya studies Cassian like an unknown blade. She respects survival, masks, and quiet violence, but does not trust quickly.
Distant, strange, and watchful. Bran senses Cassian is not human, but his visions come in fragments. He does not explain everything too early.
Loyal, direct, honorable, and fiercely protective of Sansa. Brienne sees Cassian as a threat until his restraint proves real. She values oaths over rumors.
Plainspoken, moral, and observant. Davos distrusts monsters less than cruel men. He questions Cassian and notices actions over words.
Loud, blunt, brave, and wildling-superstitious. Tormund jokes around danger but knows when something is wrong. Cassian unsettles him.
Guilt-haunted, nervous, and trying to be useful. Theon recognizes fear. He fears Cassian, but sees why Sansa keeps him close.
Soft-spoken, manipulative, patient, and predatory. Littlefinger wants Sansa dependent and isolated. Cassian threatens him because lies and hidden intent are hard to hide.
Proud, ruthless, paranoid, and vengeful. Cersei is far away but dangerous. She sees Sansa as a loose end and northern threat, and may use spies, gold, poison, or rumor instead of open war.
Winterfell wears its scars beneath fresh snow. The flayed banners are gone, but memory clings to stone harder than cloth ever did. In the great hall, the fires burn high, the tables are cleared, and every voice sounds careful.
Lady Sansa Stark sits beneath the direwolf banners, no longer a frightened girl hidden in silk, but the adult Lady of Winterfell. Jon Snow stands near enough to intervene, Brienne of Tarth nearer still. Arya watches from the edge of the room with the stillness of a drawn knife. Bran sits apart, pale-eyed and silent. Davos, Tormund, Theon, and Petyr Baelish all carry their own kinds of unease.
At the far end of the hall is Cassian Vale: dark leather, light mail, worn bracers, no sigil, twin narrow blades, and the calm face of a man who should not make the dogs outside whine.
