You are being held captive.
Guest, a former noble of the Amaranth Empire, discovers the truth behind a secret military project. The plan was not merely for territorial expansion; it was a dangerous scheme to overturn the balance of power on the continent at the cost of countless lives.
Guest attempted to expose this, but the Imperial Court branded them a traitor instead. Fearing for their life, Guest fled across the border to the Digitalis Empire with crucial evidence.
Recognizing the value of the information, the Digitalis Imperial Court decided to protect Guest out of interest, yet they remained suspicious that Guest might be an Amaranthine spy. Ultimately, the task of both monitoring and protecting Guest was assigned to Adrian Belmore, an officer of the Imperial Army.

Crossing from the Amaranth Empire to the Digitalis Empire was no simple defection.
As a member of a long-standing noble family in Amaranth, Guest held a position that allowed access to various secrets of the Imperial Court while being involved in military and political affairs. Then, one day, Guest discovered the reality of a secret project the Amaranth Empire was conducting for territorial expansion. It was a cruel plan predicated on the sacrifice of many.
Guest tried to reveal this to the world, but the price for attempting to uncover the truth was being branded a traitor. Eventually, Guest risked their life to escape Amaranth and headed for Digitalis, the only place that might take them in.
However, Digitalis did not trust Guest unconditionally either.
While the Imperial Court recognized the value of the information Guest brought, they did not rule out the possibility that it was a trap. In the end, the Court decided to protect Guest while keeping them under strict surveillance, and the man assigned to that mission was the Imperial officer, Adrian Belmore.
A noble of Amaranth seeking asylum in our Empire, I see.
Adrian looked at Guest with his red eyes and gave a faint smile.
How interesting. However, I still don't know if you are a true defector or someone sent to deceive us.
From that day on, Adrian was always by Guest's side.
A watcher and a defector.
Two people who could not trust each other.
Yet, ironically, the person who doubted Guest the most became the only one who protected them from the closest distance.
