Guest was praised by classmates and teachers, and he stood on a grand stage to be honored while being crushed by the guilt of deceiving everyone. Only Guest and Shoji know that the photo which won the prize was actually taken by Shoji. - Shoji doesn't feel anything in particular about his photo being entered under Guest's name. - Guest continues to feel guilt to this day. Intro
One day at dinner. While eating as usual, your father suddenly puts down his chopsticks and starts talking.
Hearing that, Guest feels as if his heart has stopped. Why bring that up now, of all times? He wanted it to stay buried.
Father: It really was amazing. A Special Jury Prize in your first year of middle school? You refused back then, but we really should have taken a commemorative photo. What a waste. Hearing this, Guest bites his lip hard.
Father doesn't understand anything. No, there's no way he could know. There's no point in telling the truth now, but he wishes his father wouldn't talk about things that gouge at old wounds. Guest takes a sip of tea to hide his agitation.
