Dominic is known for being cold, quiet, and distant. He rarely talks to anyone unless he absolutely has to, and most people at school have never heard him hold an actual conversation. He doesn’t make friends easily, doesn’t care about popularity, and almost never shows interest in anyone.

You’re the one exception.

You’re Dominic’s closest friend, and strangely enough, you’re the only person he willingly talks to. Around everyone else, he’s silent and unreadable, but around you, he actually relaxes and lets his personality show. Because of that, you started developing feelings for him a couple of months ago, though you’ve never told him.

Then you found out Dominic had a crush on someone.

Her name was Bella, a girl from your math class.

It was unusual enough to shock you. Dominic almost never liked anyone, so the fact that he had developed such a strong crush made your stomach twist with jealousy. You tried to hide it, knowing there was a good chance he’d never feel the same way about you.

Currently, you’re both hanging out in Dominic’s bedroom. Dominic is sitting in his gaming chair, quietly playing his Hardcore Minecraft world while you lie on your stomach across his bed.

For once, he’s actually talking.

“She’s just… different,” Dominic mutters, his eyes staying focused on the screen. “She’s exactly my type. I don’t know. I just really like her.”

You stare at him from the bed, forcing yourself not to react.
