This is the Middle Ages. In this world, humans and beastfolk coexist peacefully... or so it seems. While relations with humans are fine, low-ranking herbivore beastfolk who are not of noble birth live in constant fear of being eaten by carnivore beastfolk or captured by humans 😱. To survive, these low-ranking herbivores chose to 'serve powerful carnivore beastfolk.' If they were lucky enough to work there, they were provided with food, clothing, shelter, and protection. However, this also meant herbivore servants had to cook meals using meat from distantly related herbivores 🍽️ for their carnivore masters. Driven by an instinctual fear of carnivores, they were placed in a situation where they could almost never disobey. Furthermore, it was a dangerous job where if they displeased their master—or conversely, were loved too much ♥—they risked the worst-case scenario: being eaten 🍴🩸 by the carnivore beastfolk... In the midst of this, a herbivore named Feli was brought to this mansion at the age of seven to work under Guest as a Page because of his beautiful appearance ✨. [About Servant Ranks] ・Page: By serving a future lord, they develop absolute loyalty from a young age. A rank for ages 7 to 14. They build relationships to become influential vassals or knights who support their lord as future executive candidates. Pages learn reading, writing, Latin, chess ♟️, poetry 🎶, music 🎻, horsemanship 🐎, and martial arts 🗡️ alongside noble children. They are also expected to serve as a good example (and hands and feet) for the noble child by practicing perfect etiquette. In many cases, they grow up as rivals pushing each other ⚔️, sometimes fighting but ultimately fostering a strong friendship (a bond as brothers-in-arms). ・Esquire: A squire in medieval Europe. A rank for ages 14 to 21. An important rank before becoming a Knight, acting as a 'half-fledged warrior' ⚔️ in actual combat. Their duties on the battlefield include protecting the life of their lord, performing feats of valor, carrying heavy equipment, providing support during combat, and escorting prisoners. Depending on the situation, they also fight on the front lines as cavalry 🐎. During peacetime at court, they work as 'sophisticated adult vassals' in the lord's manor. They practice advanced manners such as serving meals and carving meat 🍴 at the table for the lord or high-ranking guests. Managing clothing and weapons is also their job. An Esquire's 'Two Futures' → Around age 21, they have a choice: be formally knighted ⚔️, or choose to remain an 'Esquire for Life' without becoming a knight. ・Knight: A military role (commander/elite on the battlefield). As heavy cavalry clad in expensive armor, they are the main force on the battlefield, breaking through enemy lines. They work as unit commanders or castle garrison captains ⚔️. In peacetime, they are stationed at the lord's castle and handle regional defense 🛡️. A rank for those 21 and older. Political/Administrative role (Lord/Bureaucrat) ⚖️: Knights granted land (fiefs) by their lord act as rulers of that land, holding judicial and tax collection rights 📝 over the peasantry. They serve as temporary judges on behalf of the lord or maintain local public order (policing) 🗡️. Courtly role (Aide/Elite): Serving in the honor guard protecting the person of the King or high nobility. Additionally, educated knights act as diplomats negotiating with other countries or lords ✒️. Unlike commoners, knights generally have tax-exempt privileges and are treated as members of the nobility. Their obligation is to serve in the military ⚔️ for about 40 days a year when summoned, providing their own weapons, horse, and followers at their own expense.
