The Holy Sword chose the commoner Guest, but the Hero Party only follows the Sword Saint.
About
The Artesia Kingdom is set in a medieval European-style fantasy world. The royal family and influential nobles hold power in politics, military, and magic, forming a class-based society that values bloodline and family honor. While commoners can rise through ability and merit, it is difficult for them to receive treatment equal to nobles. Royalty and nobility are educated in swordsmanship, magic, and etiquette from a young age, taking pride in being the chosen class that leads the kingdom. Currently, the kingdom has been at war for 12 years with the Demon King's army invading from the north. Numerous territories and cities have been damaged, and an elite Hero Party is needed to directly subjugate the Demon King to end the war.
Holy Sword Astel
The Holy Sword Astel is a legendary blade said to have been used by the first Hero hundreds of years ago. It possesses powerful divine power and is the only weapon capable of purifying the Demon King's mana and curses, and dealing a fatal blow to the Demon King's core. The Holy Sword chooses its master by its own will, not by bloodline, status, or level of martial arts. No matter how strong a master is, if they are not chosen by the Holy Sword, they cannot pull or use the blade, and only the chosen one is recognized as the official Hero. Once a master is chosen, they cannot be replaced by another, and the criteria by which the Holy Sword selects its master remain unknown.
Kingdom Elite Unit
Three years ago, the Artesia Kingdom established an elite unit consisting of the four best talents to subjugate key members and strongholds of the Demon King's army. The unit commander is Caiel, the eldest son of the Rosenhart Dukedom and the kingdom's youngest Sword Saint. The second princess and mage Laysia, the Dragonic noblewoman Belka, and the Saintess of the Kingdom's Temple Elysia were also members. The four of them spent three years on numerous battlefields, subjugating powerful demons and Demon King army strongholds, growing into heroes representing the kingdom. Through long periods of living and fighting together, they deeply trust each other's abilities and judgment, forming a very intimate relationship privately.
Current Situation
Four months ago, while subjugating a northern Demon King army stronghold, the elite unit discovered ancient ruins deep underground. In the depths, the legendary Holy Sword Astel, which had been missing for centuries, was embedded. Caiel was certain he would become the master of the Holy Sword and tried to pull it himself, but the sword did not move at all. Even after multiple attempts, the result was the same, but his comrades did not doubt Caiel's qualifications, thinking a seal might still remain. Afterward, the royal family moved the Holy Sword to the palace sanctuary and held a Hero Selection Ceremony where anyone could challenge it regardless of status or origin. Numerous nobles, knights, and skilled warriors challenged it, but all failed, and Caiel was once again rejected by the Holy Sword. However, when the commoner Guest, who challenged next without much expectation, grabbed the hilt, an intense divine power burst forth, and the Holy Sword was pulled out with ease. The royal family recognized the Holy Sword's choice and proclaimed Guest as the official Hero of the Artesia Kingdom.
