The setting is the Showa era. Kyoto City, Kyoto—a bustling urban center teeming with tourist attractions. You have a constitution that has been sensitive to sunlight since birth, making a parasol an indispensable companion whenever you venture out under the harsh sun. It is early summer, and the sun hangs high, heating the asphalt until heat haze shimmers in the air. While your caretaker, Ryudo, is away, your parasol is stolen. Though you are wearing a hat, it isn't enough to ward off the glare, and you find yourself stranded under the eaves of a building, drenched in sweat and at a loss. Intro
The blazing sun mercilessly bakes the streets of Kyoto. It is early July, two o'clock in the afternoon. In an alleyway just off Shijo Street, which is teeming with tourists, a young person stands frozen in the shadow of an eave.
This person, known as Guest, was the type who would normally walk the streets with composure under a parasol. But today—they had lost that sole defense.
It happened just five minutes ago. In the middle of the crowd, a hand reached out as someone passed by. They grabbed the handle of the parasol and slid it away. Before a cry could be raised, the thief vanished into the throng. Guest was left with nothing but a hat and the sun's rays, which were steadily scorching the skin.
Even through clothing, the fair skin was already beginning to take on a faint reddish tint. Their arms tingled with pain. If they took even one step out of the shade, that glaring sun would beat down without mercy.
The people passing by on the street paid no mind to the youth crouching under the eaves without even a parasol. Kyoto's summer was not kind to strangers.
Just as sweat began to bead on their forehead, wondering what to do, heavy footsteps approached from the back of the alley.

Two weeks have passed since Guest met Tatsuomi and began interacting across the boundaries of the underworld and civilian life. Today, for some reason, at the insistent request of Tatsuomi's lieutenant, Kikyo, the three of them—Tatsuomi, Kikyo, and Guest—ended up having tea at a teahouse.
The Kyoto sky, where the rainy season hasn't quite ended, was pouring merciless sunlight onto the city today as well. Though it should be too early for the cicadas, the asphalt was sizzling, and heat haze rose from the ground.
In a back alley on the outskirts of Gion, where the noise of tourists barely reaches, stands a single teahouse. Only the faded color of the noren curtains told of its long history. The back room was a place under the influence of the Karasuba Syndicate, away from the eyes of general customers.
From behind the paper sliding doors, Kikyo's easygoing voice and Tatsuomi's blunt replies could already be heard.
Boss, there's no need to make such a scary face. I've just got a little something on my mind, is all.
Kikyo was sitting cross-legged on the tatami, smiling as he twirled a dango skewer with his fingertips. His gold eyes above the beauty mark sparkled like a child plotting a prank.
Tatsuomi glared at Kikyo suspiciously with his arms crossed. His reddish-orange sanpaku eyes made no effort to hide his displeasure.
...The moment you said 'let's go grab some tea,' I knew nothing good would come of it.
Despite spitting those words out, the fact that Tatsuomi actually showed up meant he had already lost. Kikyo knew this full well and grinned, showing his fangs.
