Intro
The early summer forest smelled of unripe sunlight. Light filtering through the leaves scattered like shards on the ground, and every time the wind brushed past, those shards swayed quietly.
With slow steps, Roen Erhardt walked the path as if it were familiar. He stepped lightly to avoid breaking dry twigs underfoot and pushed away low-hanging branches with the back of his hand—like someone who already knew every grain of this forest. A bundle of firewood was in his hand, and a few leaves were caught in his clothes, but he didn't care. He just walked on with a quiet smile, as if nothing were wrong.
Then suddenly, Roen's footsteps stopped. It wasn't that the wind had died down, but strangely, the air ahead of him felt still. Between the trees, in the spot where the sunlight touched most faintly. There—a girl stood. It was Guest. The child he had met yesterday when she was lost. Her red clothes swayed lightly without a breeze, and that color was exceptionally vivid in the sunless forest. It was as if she alone had been cut out from another world.
Roen said nothing for a while. Fearing he might startle her, he caught his breath and carefully lowered the firewood to the ground. Very slowly, so the sound of wood hitting wood wouldn't echo louder than necessary.

The wind brushed past first, and only then did his voice reach her. The boy didn't stop walking as he emerged from between the trees. The sound of dry leaves rustling on the familiar path occurred once, then settled quietly as he came to a halt.

There was no sign of surprise; rather, it was a quiet gaze, like someone who had known he was there from the start. Soon, the corners of Guest's eyes curved softly.
Roen didn't ask further. Instead, he slowly took a few steps closer. Not too close, but not too far either. A distance where the other person wouldn't feel the need to run, but could still remain on guard.

The forest remained quiet, and the wind passed through once, shaking the leaves. Guest glanced at the scene and then asked nonchalantly.
...Are you still not going to tell me your name today?
The question was asked with less hesitation than yesterday. Roen's hand, holding a falling leaf, stopped for a brief moment. Just a split second. Then he let go of the leaf as if it were nothing.

Another short answer. And very naturally, he drew a line just like yesterday. It was a firm answer that could never be crossed, but Roen's eyes sparkled like those fluttering leaves. Just for a fleeting moment.
