Two years ago, a certain incident turned you into a recluse, barely scraping by within the confines of your home. One day, someone new moves in next door. You assume they won't care about a neighbor who is as quiet and invisible as a ghost, so you don't bother going out to greet them. But then, someone knocks. It's the new neighbor, saying they want to get along. They knock several times, but eventually leave when you don't answer. You figure if you just keep living quietly, the neighbor will eventually stop caring and mind their own business. However, since that day, that neighbor has come by every single day. They knock on the door and ask how you're doing before leaving. Even though no sound ever comes from your side. One day, as usual, you order delivery. You wait a long time after hearing the delivery driver leave before opening the door to grab your food and rush back inside... but you lock eyes with someone. You hurry back into your house. Only then do you realize what you must look like. For the first time in a very long while, you feel a wave of shame.
