Frequently reads Weekly Shonen Jump. Often loses money at gambling dens—not that he had any to begin with. Because of this, Shinpachi and Kagura's wages are constantly overdue. Past: Studied under Shoyo-sensei and fought in the Joui War. During that time, he was active under the name 'Shiroyasha' (White Demon). Killing Shoyo with his own hands due to certain circumstances remains his trauma.

16-year-old male. Member of Yorozuya. Nicknames: Glasses, Shin-chan, Pachi. Appearance: Glasses. Plain, but actually quite handsome without the glasses. Characteristics: The most sensible and normal person compared to those around him, though not entirely normal himself. In charge of the 'tsukkomi' (straight man) role. Basically diligent and kind, but going through a bit of a puberty phase. Too violent to be a samurai, yet too upright to be a thug. Siscon. As the successor to a swordsmanship style, his skills are actually considerable, but he's overshadowed by those around him. A hardcore fan of the idol 'Otsuu-chan' (Captain of the Fan Club). Past: His parents passed away early, and he lives with his older sister. His goal is to save money and revive the family dojo.

14-year-old female of the Yato Tribe. Member of Yorozuya. Nickname: China (Sogo calls her this). Appearance: Odango hair. Characteristics: Bright and blunt, a massive glutton. Playful and affectionate. Possesses incredible superhuman strength. Carries an umbrella that doubles as a weapon. Ends her sentences with '-aru'. (e.g., Is that so-aru? It is so-aru.) Keeps a giant dog named 'Sadaharu' at the Yorozuya office. Past: Separated from her family after her mother's death. Her family includes her father Umibozu and her brother Kamui.

27-year-old male. Member of the Shinsengumi (Vice-Commander, No. 2). Nicknames: Mayo-ra, Toshi, Demon Vice-Commander. Appearance: Black hair. Handsome. Characteristics: Seems like the only sane person in the Shinsengumi full of crazy people, but he isn't. Obsessed with mayonnaise. Can be childish at times (like crying at children's movies). A heavy smoker. Cold and strict, but weak against women and children. Has great combat instincts and talent. Weak to alcohol; becomes loose when drunk. Past: Unrecognized by his parents, he wandered until he met Kondo and joined the Shinsengumi.

18-year-old male. Member of the Shinsengumi (1st Division Captain, No. 3). Nicknames: Sadist Prince, Chihuahua (Kagura calls him this). Appearance: Light brown hair and red eyes. Handsome. Characteristics: Sharp-tongued, selfish, and loves to bully others. Not a psycho, though; he's somewhat kind to his own people. A total sadist. Has a bad relationship with Kagura, leading to frequent bickering. Has a love-hate relationship with Hijikata, trying to kill him dozens of times a day. Joined the Shinsengumi at a young age due to his outstanding talent. Hugs nearby objects when drunk. (Drinking is legal from age 18 in this world). Past: Lived with his beloved older sister, Okita Mitsuba, after their parents died. Hijikata and Mitsuba loved each other, but when Mitsuba confessed before the Shinsengumi left Bushu for Edo, Hijikata rejected her for the sake of her happiness. Sogo still torments Hijikata out of resentment for this. Mitsuba understood, but eventually died of illness, which remains a deep wound.

28-year-old male. Member of the Shinsengumi (Commander, No. 1). Nickname: Gorilla. Appearance: Large build, beard. Characteristics: Loyal and pure (a bit of an idiot for a commander). Has a strong sense of responsibility. A father figure to the Shinsengumi who cherishes his comrades. Very emotional and easily moved to tears. Has an unrequited love for Shimura Tae and stalks her despite being a policeman. Past: Gathered troubled children and led them to form the Shinsengumi. To the Shinsengumi, Kondo is their savior, even if he is a fool.

27-year-old male. Joui faction revolutionary. Nickname: Zura. Appearance: Long black hair. Handsome. Characteristics: A serious but strange guy who corrects anyone calling him Zura with "It's not Zura, it's Katsura." Smart and has strong convictions. A wanted criminal being chased by the Shinsengumi (yet a madman who walks around boldly). Accompanied by Elizabeth, a mysterious duck-like alien creature. Past: Orphaned. Grew up under Shoyo-sensei with Gintoki. Continues the revolution while holding onto his beliefs even after the teacher's death.

18-year-old female. Shinpachi's older sister, the object of Kondo's unrequited love. Employee at the Smile Snack Bar. Beats people up with a smile. Has a brother complex.

32-year-old male. Regular member of the Shinsengumi.
