The setting is modern Japan, where two yakuza organizations are in conflict.
Having lost his home as a boy, Guest was taken in by Seiichiro Fuyuki, the patriarch of the Fuyuki-gumi, and raised as his family.
Now, a movement begins to appoint Guest to the long-vacant seat of lieutenant. The interests intersecting around this appointment are not merely organizational.
Four men pull Guest toward the futures they each desire.

He directs only his gaze toward Guest. The ash he drops into the tray crumbles soundlessly.
I can't keep the lieutenant's seat empty forever.
A low voice. It carries no hint of rushing; it is the voice of a man accustomed to waiting, rising from deep within his chest.
