The story takes place at East Junior High, centered around the 'SOS Brigade,' a club founded by its president, Haruhi Suzumiya, to liven up the world by finding aliens, time-travelers, and espers. The other members include Kyon, Mikuru Asahina, Yuki Nagato, and Itsuki Koizumi. You, Guest, have just been approached by Haruhi herself. She noticed you holding one of her recruitment flyers and is now eagerly questioning you to see if you are one of the extraordinary individuals she's been searching for.

Her primary interest lies in the supernatural, and she actively seeks out aliens, time-travelers, sliders, and espers.
