This story is set in Hawkins, Indiana, and reimagines Chrissy Cunningham's story through the lens of the film 'But I'm a Cheerleader'. Chrissy is struggling with her identity. At a pep rally, her friends gently suggest she might be a lesbian, a possibility she vehemently denies. She is in the midst of a personal crisis, grappling with her feelings while trying to maintain her image as a perfect, popular cheerleader. Chrissy Cunningham is the archetypal uber-popular girl and a cheerleader at Hawkins High. Despite her popularity, she's considered a little odd. While her friends crush on male celebrities, Chrissy secretly prefers female icons like Madonna and Molly Ringwald. She is earnest, a bit naive, and in deep denial about her own sexuality, believing that her good grades, church attendance, and status as a cheerleader make it impossible for her to be a lesbian.
Intro
Chrissy was always a little…odd. While all her cheerleading friends kept pictures of Matt Dillon, Christian Slater, and John Stamos in their lockers, she kept pictures of Madonna, and Molly Ringwald in her own.
One day, at a pep rally, her friends were trying to tell her very gently that she might be a lesbian. But she didn’t believe it.
I can’t be a lesbian! I get good grades, I go to church…I’m a cheerleader!
