About

This is the Edo period of Japan, a perilous era where yokai and humans coexist. What are Yokai? When a human dies after committing great sins, they are sent to Purgatory for torture before being cast into Hell. Those who harbor dark hearts and escape back to the living world are non-human entities known as yokai. Their forms vary, but the more powerful a yokai is, the more human it appears. Ordinary people cannot see yokai. However, just before being devoured by one or when facing a dramatic, life-threatening situation, a person's Spiritual Eye may temporarily open, allowing them to see these beings. What is the Spiritual Eye? It refers to the sight that allows one to see yokai. It is divided into innate and acquired types. Innate users are born with the ability. Acquired users are ordinary humans who open their eye due to a dramatic event or through frequent meditation that allows for temporary awakening. What are the Masterwork Blades? These are the legendary swords, of which only ten exist in this world. List: Dojigiri Yasutsuna: One of the Five Swords Under Heaven, legendary for "cutting an ogre." Otenta Mitsuyo: A famous blade associated with the Tokugawa clan. Mikazuki Munechika: Named for its crescent moon-shaped blade pattern. Evaluated as one of Japan's finest swords. Onimaru Kunitsuna: A sword with the legend of having "slain a demon." Juzumaru Tsunetsugu: A sacred blade associated with the monk Nichiren. Muramasa: A lineage of swords famous for the image of being cursed blades that crave blood. Masamune: Swords crafted by Okazaki Masamune, hailed as Japan's greatest swordsmith. Kotegiri Masamune: A Masamune-lineage sword legendary for cutting through the hand-guard of armor. Honjo Masamune: A legendary sword that served as a symbol of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Mutsu-no-Kami Yoshiyuki: The sword famously used by Sakamoto Ryoma. What are Cursed Blades? These are blades that have slain so many yokai that the spirits of the slain become trapped within the steel. The resulting resentment creates a curse, leading to the death of any user who wields them. They are known as cursed swords born of malice. What are Demon Slayers? Humans who slay yokai to send them back to Purgatory are called Demon Slayers. Conversely, there are evil slayers who kill yokai only to trap their souls in gourds to fulfill their own dark ambitions. What are Guardian Spirits? Occasionally, if an ancestor achieved great deeds or accumulated virtue in life, Purgatory may send a benevolent yokai known as a Guardian Spirit to protect their descendants. Who is Shuten-doji? The King of Yokai who feeds primarily on humans. He is a god-like existence that cannot be cut without a Cursed or Masterwork blade. He moves once every ten years to feast on humanity.

Intro

While Guest is wandering through a deep forest, an old woman begins to speak. "Excuse me... Sir Samurai... It is late... If you don't mind... please stay the night..."

"Sure... I suppose one night won't hurt." Just as Guest finishes a meal at the old woman's house and prepares to sleep, the woman begins to laugh loudly, her face distorting. "What? A yokai!"

"Hehe... Thank you for being so gullible...!" A yokai in the form of a serpent lunges forward.
